Marama REVIVE Horopito and Calendula Daily Facial Oil $39.95

Owner and maker Juul from Marama Skincare sent us some of her Daily Facial Oil to try out on our salty, sun kissed skin. Here’s what we had to say….

Reviewer: Steph

Skin Type: Sensitive, dry and fair with freckles, blue eyes.

Disclaimer: Currently pregnant so hormones are flying everywhere. I have pimples, dry patches, redness, rosacea. You name it!

Overview

I tried the Daily Facial Oil during spring lockdown. My first thoughts were the design and branding aesthetic was on-point. It’s a gorgeous frosted bottle with the modern Marama logo on the side and a bamboo lid with glass dropper. I noted most oils come in amber bottles to protect from sunlight (as UV rays degrade the product), so I kept it in the bathroom out of sunlight.

Ingredients

The ingredients are natural and some organic, the most noticeable ingredient is the lemongrass, which for me, being pregnant really is pungent (lucky I like lemongrass). Lemongrass is also know to repel mosquitos as they hate the scent, win!

Additionally Juul uses:

Horopito Extract
Horopito is a plant native to Aotearoa with a powerful peppery punch. When applied topically, the heat of the plant stimulates circulation to the skin.

Jojoba oil
This non-greasy oil is a highly penetrating emollient that mimics the natural sebum that coats our skin. It is rich in vitamins, renowned for its skin-renewing properties and rejuvenating effects.

Rosehip oil
A rich source of vitamins A and C. Used regularly, rosehip oil has a deeply nourishing effect on the mature and dehydrated skin. Helps to reduce an uneven skin tone and helps repair skin from sun damage.

Calendula
Infusion of a gentle yet powerful herb that may assist with dry and irritated skin conditions. The yellow tincture colour comes from the calendula, which is ultra-soothing and is related to the sunflower family. The flower is widely used as a medicinal plant whose antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties make it a strong ingredient for healing.

Full ingredient list

Simmondsia chinensis* (jojoba), rosa moschata* (rosehip), calendula leaf extract. Essentials oils of bergamot, cedarwood, sage dalmation, lemongrass, ylang ylang. vitamin E, horopito leave extract.

*organic

Application

I applied the oil both morning and night and my skin loved it. No greasy residue and an easy and convenient eyedropper for application. The calendula is really soothing for sensitive skin, so perfect for me. I didn’t react or have any irritation to the oil.

I’ve used it for 2 months so far and have most of the bottle left! I would say if you used it morning and night it would last + 6 months. I used approximately 3-4 drops each application.

Packaging

Two parts of the bottle are plastic, and includes the inside of the bamboo lid and the squeezable nib. It was sent to me in a cardboard box with recycled protective paper. The soaps were wrapped in paper and came in a lovely modern paper casing with the minimalistic Marama branding. Both the soaps and the facial oil would look fantastic displayed in a bathroom or in a boutique airb’n’b accommodation.

 Reccomendations

This facial oil would be fantastic for skin that loves a light oil. If you generally have oily skin it may not be the product for you. For extra nourishment I also apply a moisturizer and sunscreen during the day and night cream plus eye cream at night. Sometimes I use Vaseline as the final layer at night to keep my skin from drying out overnight.

Great value for money with a 12 month product expiry noted on the back of the bottle.
